Learn how to interact with objects in a JoinXR meeting in more detail.
Manipulating Objects
You can move, rotate and scale all objects in JoinXR using the standard near (grab) or far (point and tap) interactions supported by XR headsets.
Move
Move objects with a single-handed pinch and drag
Rotate
Rotate objects with a single hand by rotating that hand, or with two hands by pinching with both and then moving one forward and one back
Scale
Scale objects by pinching with both hands and then spreading them apart or together
Editing Objects
Each object has a context menu, revealed by selecting the object (via a tap, or grab), which sits just below it in 3D space. This gives access to various functions, some of which are specific to the type of object you have selected (e.g. the a video's context menu has a play button, a PDF's does not).
Locking
Any object can be locked which will prevent it being moved, rotated or scaled by you or any other user until it is unlocked. This is often useful for stopping accidental modifications, particularly when working with large objects.
Copy and Paste
Pressing the copy button brings up 2 options Copy and Duplicate.
- Copy - Copying and pasting an object is a two-step process, you can then paste that object by selecting [Hand Menu] > Tools > Paste. You can paste it onto the same slide or onto a different slide of the document.
- Duplicate - Duplicate is effectively a handy shortcut that performs the same action as copying and pasting within the same slide.
Rotation
How an object behaves when you rotate it can be set to one of two modes:
- In Free Rotate mode the object will rotate around every access, much like a real object would
- In Axis Locked mode, the object will rotate around the vertical access, so it stays pointing 'up'
Scale
You can access more precise scale controls by pressing the scale button. This brings up a sub-menu where you can select some preset scale and also lock the scale of an object. Setting the scale to 1:1 and locking the scale will ensure the object stays at its real-world dimensions.
Previous/Next
Multi-page PDFs have previous/next buttons on their context menu. The page a PDF is on is saved in to the slide, so if you want to you can synchronise slides in a JoinXR document to pages in a PDF.
Clip/Edit Clip
3D Objects have a 'clip plane' (also known as a 'section plane') which allows you slice through the object to reveal its internals.
To turn on the clip plane tap the 'clip' button.
To move the clip plane tap the 'edit clip' button and then move and rotate the circular object that appears.
To aid with more precise clipping (e.g. for slicing through the floors or walls of a building plan) you can select to lock the clipping plane to a specific direction (side, top, or front) or to flip which side of the plane is visible and which is invisible. These are available on the extra options under the 'Edit Clip' button:
The on/off state of the clip plane and the plane's position is saved in to the slide. You can use this feature to create different arrangements of internal views of objects within a slide and across multiple slides.
