Charge everything, everywhere, all the time
It is important to manage the battery life on your headsets. Headsets like the Meta Quest 3, running JoinXR in passthrough mode will usually run for about 1.5 to 2 hours in continual use. This is not enough for a long day at a Tradeshow. However if you follow these guideline you will be able to run JoinXR all day without problems:
- Put active headsets on charge at every possible opportunity. This makes a big difference and can usually allow you to run all morning until a recommended power down and reset around lunchtime.
- Have easy access to spare headsets, pre set up, connected to the WIFI and on charge. You can easily connect a new headset into the JoinXR session at a moment notice if another one loses power.
Sleep Mode
Whilst constant charging is important you also want to prevent your headsets going to sleep mode too quickly. This will save you needing to reconnect and reset them too often. Therefore your headsets should all have their power management configured as follows:
- Go to Settings / System
- Set Display off to 15 mins
- Set Sleep Mode to 15 mins
Sleep or Switch off - learn the difference!
Most headsets have a 'soft power off' or sleep mode and also a full power off. One is usually a quick press of the power button, the other a much longer press of the same button usually accompanied by a confirmation menu in the headset. Make sure you learn how to fully switch off a headset at the end of the day so you have no nasty surprises (they come on easily if still in sleep mode and will then go flat overnight for example)
Note : Full charge takes approx. 2.5 hours from flat. Only use the USB plugs that come with the headsets, other cheaper USB plugs maybe low current and charge very very slowly. Bear in mind on foreign trips that you have multi adaptors to convert all your USB plugs!
Tip : Make sure you have enough power near your demo area to have all you devices on charge.
